More bizarre deaths

Terrifying moment a huge wave sweeps three people out to sea

Huge waves were filmed smashing against the rocks on a Tenerife shoreline on the Canary islands. Footage captures the tragedy which saw four people hit by the waves. A 74-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man drowned while a third is still missing. A fourth man was also dragged into the sea but managed to escape.  Horrific footage captured the moment tragedy struck on the holiday island of Tenerife when a giant wave knocked a tourist into the sea and a hotel worker David Patino Vilas, 35, jumped in and tried to save her. Both died after being battered against the rocks and drowning. A third man was also washed away and presumed dead.

Sorority girl, 20, dies after choking during a Greek life pancake-eating contest

Witnesses at the Greek life dinner Thursday night said Caitlin Nelson, 20, had eaten about four or five pancakes when she suddenly fell to the floor and started shaking uncontrollably. Two nursing students who were there immediately began lifesaving measures and were quickly joined by police officers and paramedics.  Despite heroic recusitation efforts at two different hospitals, she died three days later.

Kiss of Death is what a tourist posing with a cobra got and it killed him.

A man was fatally bitten by a cobra while watching a snake charmer in India. A video shows the charmer attempting to put the snake around the tourist's neck while other people watch and film. But the agitated reptile strikes out, biting the man on the cheek and delivering a deadly dose of venom.... Moments later he seems to sense that something is amiss, asking the charmer to check whether he has been bitten. But the entertainer ignores him and carries on with the demonstration. A few minutes later the man begins losing consciousness, but rather than take him to hospital, onlookers took him to a medicine man. Within an hour he had died from the poison.

Five hikers fall 500 meters to their deaths on 'deceptive' snow-covered mountain in Canada

The hikers, who were using snowshoes, vanished on Mount Harvey.  The group had apparently stepped out onto a ledge of unsupported snow, without realizing it, and it collapsed under them

This is part of an intermittent series to emphasize that death can come to anyone unexpectedly. No one woke up and thought that this would be their last day alive.  I do not mean to make light of the unspeakable loss that their families and friends experience.  May they all rest in peace.
